Community-Led Grants Process: How Does it Work?

Building on our commitment to closing the opportunity gap in Central Texas, Austin Community Foundation (ACF) continues to prioritize data-driven strategies informed by the voices and experiences of our community. This approach helps us better understand and address the unique challenges facing our region.

ACF’s Hispanic Impact Fund and Women’s Fund operate as collective giving networks led by community members who share responsibility for the vision, fundraising, and grantmaking of these programs. This model offers a variety of ways to invest in a shared strategy, and invites a group of 100+ Central Texans to inform the distribution of over $1 million to local nonprofits each year.

As collective giving networks, Grants Committee participation for the Hispanic Impact Fund and Women’s Fund requires a donation to support this work. To ensure grantmaking decisions reflect a diverse range of voices, ACF invites community reviewers whose lived experience brings valuable perspective to the grants process. Community reviewers are compensated for their time in recognition of the care and effort involved in reading and scoring applications.
