2023 Grant Partners


The Black Fund awarded $355,000 in general operating support to 21 nonprofits working to
support the growth, economic security, and wellness of Black people. The Black Fund grants committee selected the following nonprofits based on their work across four funding areas, and awarded $3,000 Committee’s Choice Awards to five grassroots organizations.

 

Education

Investing in educational initiatives and spaces that support successful outcomes for Black people.

Excellence and Advancement Foundation

$40,000 / Two-year grant

The Excellence and Advancement Foundation provides programs, services and advocacy to break the school-to-prison pipeline by coordinating prevention and intervention programs to support children at risk of becoming involved in the criminal justice system.

 

Health & Wellness

Investing in initiatives and organizations that advance the mental, physical, and spiritual health and wellness of Black Central Texans.

Black Mamas ATX

$40,000 / Two-year grant

Black Mamas ATX’s goal is to reduce and ultimately eliminate the alarming maternal mortality and morbidity rates among Black women. Through programs, increased awareness, training, outreach, and research, Black Mamas ATX is leading the charge in Central Texas to help Black mothers get the education and access to resources needed to have healthy pregnancies and birthing experiences.

 

Power Building, Organizing & Advocacy

Investing in urgent, emergent, and ongoing initiatives and organizations that harness the collective power of Black people as a means of challenging, redesigning, or uprooting systems to continually move us towards an equitable society.

African American Leadership Institute

$40,000 / Two-year grant

The African American Leadership Institute (AALI) is designed to enhance civic awareness and leadership opportunities to make an innovative community impact on Central Texas. Their mission is to build a stronger Black Austin community by equipping exceptional leaders to live up to their moral responsibility to seek to make life better for everyone in our city, state, and the world.

 

Wealth Building

Investing in initiatives and organizations that close the racial wealth gap for Black Central Texans by providing an ecosystem of support resulting in increased individual and shared growth and prosperity.

Austin Urban Technology Movement

$40,000 / Two-year grant

Austin Urban Technology Movement (AUTM) works to make the tech industry a more diverse ecosystem. AUTM pursues this goal by partnering with employers, organizations, institutions, and government entities to help the Black and Hispanic community get trained to enter and thrive in the tech industry, and radically change their income and build a career.
