Austin Community Foundation is excited to announce the addition of four new members to the Board of Governors: Alex Brown, Rudy Colmenero, Ray Martinez and Geronimo Rodriguez.

With extensive leadership experience, the new board members bring unique expertise to assist the community foundation’s work to close the opportunity gap in Central Texas. In their new roles, they will provide governance over strategic planning, policy and responsibly steward more than $300 million in assets over a three-year term.

Get to know each of the new board members below.

 

Alex Brown

Alex Brown

Alex Brown is a retired supply chain executive. Before retiring, Brown served as the Chief Procurement Officer for Globalfoundries. Previously he held the Corporate Vice President, Global Supply Management, position at Advanced Micro Devices. During the course of his career in supply chain management and engineering, Brown has held a variety of leadership positions at Texas Instruments, Xerox and ST Microelectronics.

Brown is past chair and current member of the Austin Community College Foundation Board, current vice chairman on the board of directors for St. David’s Medical Center, and past member of the Board of Directors for the Austin Area Research Organizations (AARO), and past chairman of the Austin Area Urban League board.

 

Rudy ColmeneroRudy Colmenero

Rudy Colmenero is a partner with Austin law firm Vacek, Kiecke & Colmenero, LLP. He represents clients in federal taxation, estate planning, probate, real estate and other business matters.

Colmenero is a member of the board of directors of Austin Capital Bank, SSB; a member of The University of Texas at Austin Planned Giving Advisory Board; a member of The University of Texas School of Law Alumni Association Executive Committee; a member of the President’s Council of the Seton Fund at Dell Seton Medical Center; and serves on the Chancellor’s Council Executive Committee for The University of Texas System. He also serves on the Finance and Endowment Committees for Austin-PBS.

 

Ray Martinez

Ray Martinez is deputy commissioner for academic affairs and workforce education at Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Prior to his current position, Martinez was president of the Independent Colleges and Universities of Texas, Inc. He previously served as chancellor of WGU Texas, and has held senior government relations positions at Rice University and Texas A&M International University. Martinez previously served as the director of the Higher Education Committee in the Texas Senate.

Martinez has served as a member of the board of trustees for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and as an adjunct professor of public policy at The University of Texas School of Law and the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs.

 

Geronimo RodriguezGeronimo Rodriguez

An attorney by training, Geronimo Rodriguez currently serves as the chief advocacy officer for Ascension Texas, one of the leading non-profit and Catholic healthcare systems in the United States. Previously, he served as counsel to the solicitor at the U.S. Department of Labor, overseeing 140 labor and employment laws in the United States during the Clinton Administration.

Rodriguez is current president of the Austin Independent School District Board of Trustees, and he previously served on several local and national boards, including the National Parent Teacher Association, AISD Bond Advisory Committees, Leadership Austin and the Greater Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
