Putting Down Roots: Affordable Homeownership at Persimmon Point

For more than four decades, Austin Habitat for Humanity has helped hundreds of Central Texans achieve the dream of homeownership. But as housing affordability challenges continue to grow, the organization is thinking bigger and exploring possibilities beyond single-family homes. By partnering with construction companies to develop multifamily communities, Austin Habitat is expanding its model to reach more families than ever before.

Persimmon Point marks a major milestone in that vision. With 126 affordable homeownership opportunities in South Austin, it is the largest project in Austin Habitat’s history and a powerful example of what’s possible through innovative partnerships. Supported by a low-interest loan from the Housing Accelerator Loan Fund at Austin Community Foundation, Persimmon Point is creating pathways to homeownership for residents earning less than 80% of the area median income.

In this conversation, Austin Habitat’s Andrew Donilon shares why this development matters and what it represents for the future of our region.
