New Investment Options to Fit Your Giving Needs

Giving through a fund at the Foundation just got more powerful and efficient. Donors can now choose from four investment options to better fit their giving needs. In addition to our Long-Term Active Management investment option, we now offer three additional investment options for donors who plan to invest for 5-7 years or less, or are concerned about efficiency and cost of actively managed investments.

Until now, the Foundation has offered one investment option, a highly diversified portfolio with a long-term time horizon. This Long-Term Active Management Investment pool returned returned 8.1% net of investment fees in 2016 and since inception in 1996 has returned a 6.25% net return. The Foundation's Austin Community Endowment and other discretionary funds will remain in this long-term investment option.

However, we know that one investment option doesn't fit all giving strategies. Some donors seek more short-term liquidity for spending while others are invested for the long-term. Some prefer to not invest in "Alternatives," such as private equity, private real estate, real assets, and hedged funds. We have listened to our fundholders and recognize the need for additional options.

About 90% of the Foundation’s funds are invested and 60% of funds are endowed.

Current donors are encouraged to contact us if you’d like to move your fund to a new investment option.  We will work closely with fundholders to transition funds throughout the year.
