Keeping Austin Bright with the Trail of Lights
What began in 1965 as a small gathering called Yulefest, the Trail of Lights is now Austin’s largest winter party, with 400,000 visitors each year. Since 2012, the Trail of Lights Foundation, a fund at Austin Community Foundation, has received donations from individuals and corporations to keep the lights burning bright and to ensure the event is accessible to everyone.
This year’s Trail of Lights kicks off with the 50th lighting of the Zilker Holiday Tree on Sunday, November 27, followed by the Trail of Lights Fun Run on December 3 and the Preview Party on December 9 which raises funds for the Trail of Lights Foundation. The December 10 Grand Opening kicks off two full weeks of lights, entertainment & reasons to celebrate. See the full schedule at www.austintrailoflights.org.
Since 2013, its STARS at the Trail program has honored the service of over 40 nonprofit community organizations by offering an exclusive preview of the Trail of Lights before it opens to the general public. This year, the Foundation will host 20 nonprofits and their clients. For more information about how you can host your favorite nonprofit, visit http://austintrailoflights.org/stars-program.
