About Us

People who love Austin love giving back. We help them do that with our personalized service, grantmaking, local knowledge and role as a collaborative community leader.

Austin Community Foundation celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2017. Over the year we will share 40 stories of giving. Out of our history emerge themes of Innovation, Opportunity, Collaboration and Legacy--four values that continue to inform our work. Learn more

Our tax-exempt status

We are a tax-exempt organization under 501 (c) 3 of the IRS code. That means donations made to any fund at the Foundation, or to the Foundation itself, are immediately tax deductible to the extent allowable by law.

Our unique role

We foster an ecosystem of philanthropy to create meaningful change in Austin. We do so by providing efficient and effective giving tools for donors, impactful grants for nonprofits and collaborative leadership around the most pressing needs in our community. Through the generosity and vision of our donors we grant more than $20 million annually, mostly through donor advised funds. Founded in 1977, we are the third largest charitable foundation in Central Texas by grants distributed. Through our long-term investment strategies we create assets for tomorrow while building a community of givers today.

Our local mission

The Austin Community Foundation promotes philanthropy in Central Texas to improve the quality of life for all, for today and for the future.

Clear vision and hard work

Back in 1977 when we were founded, Austin was a sleepy college town that came alive every two years when the state legislature was in session. Learn about our history and the men and women whose clear vision and hard work got us here.

"Austin cannot, and should not, leave its human, health, cultural and recreational needs to chance. The Austin Community Foundation can play a vital role in seeing that this does not happen."
